Associate Professor Masters’ passion for teaching was ignited by opportunities taken during her postgraduate studies and continues to be driven by the philosophy “Kāore he mutunga o tēnei mea, te ako” – “There is no such thing as an ending to learning”.
She is committed to enhancing the transition from Secondary to Tertiary Education and is recognised for a number of innovations in teaching including a project to help facilitate the transfer of mathematical skill and knowledge to science disciplines, leading the integration of technology into laboratory teaching in chemistry at the University of Canterbury by developing introductory laboratory videos, developing a science communication component for a chemistry course bringing scientists and artists together to communicate a scientific concept, and devising a teaching pedagogy for improving numeracy through peer-to-peer learning.
Associate Professor Masters has also been actively involved in leading, developing and delivering schools and public outreach in the Canterbury region.
