The PVC Office, College of Sciences is looking for a Hazardous Substances Advisor to join the team in a permanent capacity.

About the role

If you are passionate about safety and have a solid chemistry background, then this position may be for you. The role will assist the College by providing support and advice on safe and compliant life-cycle management of hazardous substances. There is plenty of opportunity to interact with staff and students through training, practical support, and managing/developing the hazardous substances systems that are in place and to develop resources that aid safety and compliance in this area.

About you

This position would suit an applicant who has relevant chemical laboratory experience, and a solid understanding of hazardous substance legislation and standards is essential. A relevant tertiary qualification is required, along with excellent computer literacy. In addition, an understanding of general health, safety and compliance concepts would be an advantage.

Relevant chemical laboratory and stores experience, preferably within a university, other tertiary teaching environment or industrial setting.

Ideally, you will have the following:

  • Practical understanding of hazardous substance legislation and general health and safety in the workplace requirements
  • Experienced in the use of computers for managing hazardous substance data and information
  • Some training experience is preferable
  • Proven ability to write clear readily understandable documents
  • Postgraduate qualification in Chemistry or a cognate discipline; Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Chemistry may be acceptable with appropriate practical experience
