Anya Weth
I am a PhD Student in the Immunoglycomics group at VUW, supervised by Associate Professors Mattie Timmer and Bridget Stocker. My research sits at the interface of Chemistry and Immunology, with a focus on the development of carbohydrate-derived molecules as novel vaccine adjuvants. This work involves the synthesis, formulation, and biological evaluation of novel ligands designed to activate innate immune cells. Since joining the NZIC, I have had the opportunity to present at the 2024 NZIC conference in Dunedin and published an article in the "Chemistry in New Zealand" NZIC newsletter, exploring how the immune system is able to recognise foreign pathogens, and how these signals can be used in the development of novel vaccines.
Becoming a part of the NZIC has given me the opportunity to connect with other students and researchers, and to learn about the wide range of research activities happening across the country.
