Lisa Pilkington
Lisa Pilkington is an Associate Professor at Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland and PI for CoRE Te Pūnaha Matatini. Holding both a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Auckland and an MSc in Applied Statistics from the University of Oxford, Lisa’s field of study is analytical chemistry and chemometrics/chemical data science. Specifically, Lisa is focussed on the development and application of methods, tools and techniques for analysis, and the use of analytical and statistical methods to answer chemical questions. Her research, particularly on wastewater-based epidemiology, has been noted for its insight and potential impact, and has been featured in mainstream media and documentaries. Lisa was recently awarded the ACES NZIC Early Career Researcher Award in 2024.
I feel incredibly lucky to be a member of the NZIC. Right from when I went to my first NZIC conference in Kirikiriroa during my PhD, I have felt a strong sense of support, connection and community in this organisation, that has now only grown with time. NZIC has also supported both myself, through being awarded the ACES NZIC Early Career Researcher Award in 2024, and my students through the awarding of travel grants which make possible for them what wouldn’t have been feasible otherwise. NZIC connects chemists from across the country, supports us by creating community, and in conducting our science.
