Bill Hawkins

Bill Hawkins completed his PhD at the University of Wollongong, followed by postdoctoral positions at the University of Melbourne and École Polytechnique (France). After a brief period at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute for Medical Research, he joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of Otago as a lecturer in July 2012. His primary research interests include the synthesis of bioactive natural products and their application as chemical probes to understand biological processes and inform drug design, alongside the development of new synthetic methodologies. He is a recipient of several awards, including the Easterfield Medal (RSC/NZIC, 2019) and the Thieme Chemistry Journal award (2019).

Being an NZIC member connects me to a national community of scientists through local branches and biennial conferences.
